Uniforms, textbooks and sports kit are expensive, and children grow out of them quickly. Parents already trade these items informally — over WhatsApp groups, school notice boards and word of mouth. SchoolSwap SA is trying to make that easier, more organised and more trustworthy, without changing how parents already do it.
Why reuse matters
A uniform or textbook that still has years of life left in it is worth more to another family than sitting in a cupboard. Reuse helps stretch a household budget further and keeps good-quality items in use for longer.
A school-first marketplace
Listings are organised around schools so parents can find items relevant to their child’s grade, uniform and community first. Schools shown in this prototype are sample data used for browsing convenience only — SchoolSwap SA is not affiliated with, and does not claim any partnership with, the schools referenced.
Where we are right now
SchoolSwap SA is a working prototype being tested with a small group of South African parents ahead of a public launch. Core buying and selling journeys work end to end, but payments, live seller messaging, email delivery and account syncing across devices are not yet built.
